Santiago García-Castañón (Avilés, Spain, 1959) holds a degree in Anglo-Germanic Philology from the University of Oviedo (Spain), and a Ph. D. in Spanish Literature from the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign). He has lived in the United States since 1985 and is currently Professor of Spanish Literature at Western Carolina University, where he was head of the Department of Modern Foreign Languages for seven years. A literary scholar, translator, poet and novelist, he has sixteen books to his credit. His academic research deals mostly with the cultural production of Early Modern Spain.
His creative literary works include two novels: El castillo de los halcones (2004) and Vida y fabulosas aventuras de Pedro Menéndez de Avilés (2006), and nine poetry collections:Tiempos imperfectos (1994), Entre las sombras (1996), Lo que queda (2002), Rota memoria(2006), Las brasas de tu fuego (2012), Equis (2013), Las orillas de una mar incierta / The Shores of an Uncertain Sea (2015; bilingual), Objetos desechables / Disposable Objects (2017, bilingual), and Una lejana luz (2017).
