We notify only the grant recipient, who will be announced on the website and at the Emrys Annual Meeting on May 9, 2017 at Chicora Alley in Greenville.
At the Annual Meeting on May 17, 2016, Jo Ann Walker, one of our founding members, was recognized for her longtime support and the many ways she has contributed to Emrys. Though she moved away, her influence on Emrys will be lasting. One way we will remember her is through the establishment of a scholarship in her honor. The Emrys Board voted to establish, with contributions from the board and Jo Ann’s family and friends, The Jo Ann Terry Walker Poetry Workshop Scholarship, to be awarded annually to a poet from South or North Carolina. The scholarship will be administered by the Emrys Scholarship Committee to allow the recipient to defray the expense of attending a regional or national poetry workshop of her or his choice. The scholarship will first be awarded May 2017.
You may make a donation in Jo Ann’s honor below or by mailing a check made out to Emrys to The Jo Ann Terry Walker Scholarship Fund, c/o Emrys, PO Box 8813, Greenville, SC 29604. In addition to our acknowledging your tax-deductible donation, we will be happy to notify Jo Ann of your gift in her honor if you indicate you would like us to do that.
