The Road, Oryx and Crake, The Stand – when readers look back on such classic works of apocalyptic fiction, they may remember characters or plot lines, but it's most likely the vision of a dying world that sticks with them. Cormac McCarthy, Margaret Atwood, and Stephen King are masters of world-building, but they use basic narrative strategies that anyone can learn. In this workshop, Brock Adams, author of the apocalyptic novel Ember, discusses these strategies and guides writers in creating their own apocalyptic worlds.
