We offer workshops and seminars to Upstate writers of all levels.
2012 workshop descriptions, schedule, and payments.
Begun in 2006, the Writing Room provides professional instruction for writers at all stages of their craft. We are building a community of writers who want to learn more about the craft of writing. We offer classes in fiction, creative nonfiction, writing for children, screenwriting, and journalism.
If you have never written, we will get you started. You may even have an idea for a story, an essay, a novel, a poem, or a book for children, and want some guidance. If you are an experienced writer, you will feel right at home. You will find attention, professional criticism, and inspiration.
Everyone will find camaraderie. Our goal is to improve your writing and develop your style. Our workshops offer a balance of craft discussions, writing exercises, and feedback. You will find support. Begin drafts or polish revisions. Present your work for critique.
Our faculty members are published writers with teaching experience. Our workshops are small, with no more than 13 students. Seminars are typically larger, and last one to two days. Please see our current schedule to review and register for our current classes.
We invite writers of all ages (18 and up) and all levels of experience to come learn new skills and improve old ones. We also encourage you to think of the Writing Room as a place for making connections, finding support and building community with other writers–a place where you can strengthen not only your writing, but your writing life.
The Writing Room’s workshops and seminars are designed to be a place where writers can learn the craft, engage in discussion, and be inspired by others. Read the Testimonials of our students to learn more about how the Writing Room is building a community of writers. Read about our faculty here. Many of our workshops can be taken more than once. We encourage early registration, as workshops are small and tend to fill quickly. All classes fill on a first-come, first-serve basis. Registration is open until the class fills or until the day before it begins, whichever happens first. For workshop descriptions and signup , as well as our refund policy, go here. Questions?
